G'day...

If you've been running Copilot Skills on any SharePoint site, you've hit the same wall. The Skill belongs to the site. Site members can run it there. Move to another site or want to run it from your OneDrive, you're rebuilding from scratch.

That just changed.

Personal Skills is in preview now in Copilot in SharePoint. Same SKILL.md file structure as site Skills. Different location. Different owner.

Where Personal Skills live

Your OneDrive, at:

Documents / Copilot / Agent Assets / Skills / / SKILL.md

Same folder hierarchy as site Skills, but in your personal OneDrive instead of the site's Agent Assets library. You own it. Nobody else runs it.

Same skill, both surfaces

The Personal Skill you create in Copilot in SharePoint also runs from Copilot in OneDrive.

Your workflow follows you across the M365 canvas.

I built one last week for a contract comparison workflow. Give it a base contract and a returned contract, get back a clean HTML change register into a personal Reports folder in OneDrive. Built it in Copilot in SharePoint. Then ran the exact same skill from Copilot in OneDrive against the exact same files. No rebuild. Same output.

Site skills vs Personal skills

Quick decision framework for when to use which.

  • Your process (your reading style, your report format, your data cleanup): Personal Skill.
  • The team's process (finance reconciliation, contract review, brand rules): Site Skill.
  • The team's process, but you're the only one running it today: Site Skill anyway. Someone will inherit it.

The three files now

SHAREPOINT.md is your site brain. Site SKILL.md files scale processes to your team. Personal SKILL.md files travel with you.

3 files. 1 architecture. That's what a working AI surface looks like in Microsoft 365 now.
