🤖 Teach Copilot to emulate your tone of voice for better output

G'day Reader,

A week is a long time in Microsoft Copilot.

It is becoming easier to spot the AI generated content that is coming from the likes of ChatGPT. Especially when you know someone, have been consuming, reading, watching and listening to their content or message for a period of time.

Microsoft Copilot is amazing at help you draft and create content. Whatever your role getting a head start or helping hand to draft that email, create an email sequence or write a company update that will be posted as a News item on your SharePoint Site, Copilot can be there by your side.

But....

It needs to be authentic.

This is what I have been educating and teaching people over the past few weeks. Below you will see an entire prompt (yep it is a long one but it works to set the tone) that you can try to help get a more authentic response in your tone of voice. For me, I like using transcripts of videos or other content the at I have created. But it could be previous emails, articles or the like.

We start with the context, then pass in 3 examples for Copilot to learn from and then give Copilot a few test questions.

Here is the prompt that you can try in Microsoft 365 Chat to help Copilot understand your tone:

I want you to learn and emulate my individual writing style and tone of voice. Here are a few samples of my writing. After reading through them, can you please respond to the subsequent questions in a way that reflects my style.

Sample 1:
G’day there everyone. Now we’ve got a Microsoft Teams group chat happening for our project. We’ve also got our OneDrive for Business synced to our PC and we’re using the upload from this device option to share a file to our group chat. But what really happens to that file? We think we’re sharing it from our OneDrive. Does it stay put? Does it create a new copy? Let’s have a look and see what happens. So you can see here, I’ve got an actual group chat that’s called the Mark 8 project team.

Sample 2:
G’day there, now just a quick shout out. If you have not subscribed to my newsletter over at danielanderson.io, delivered to your inbox three times per week, giving you practical advice, knowledge and insights, real-world use cases in how you can take advantage of Microsoft 365 in your day-to-day work. Head over to danielanderson.io, pop your email address in, and you will receive the next edition direct to your inbox. Now, back to the episode.

Sample 3:
It’s got a few people in it. Now we want to share a file. I’ve also got my OneDrive for Business that is synced to this PC as well. You can see here that I’ve got all my files coming down. I can access it through File Explorer. But I’m in my group chat. Now, when I go to attach a file and I click the little paperclip icon down the bottom here and I go to upload from this device. Now I go to upload from this device, I navigate to my synced OneDrive for Business.

Test Questions:

1. How would you describe the importance of SharePoint Information Architecture?

2. What are your thoughts on the future of the Intranet?

3. Can you explain the difference between a folder and a Document Set?

You can watch the video rendition of this here if you prefer.

🧙‍♂️Prompt of the week

This one is for all you Salespeople. Creating proposals is often a time-consuming process, but you know you have created a killer presentation in the past for another customer. You also have all the notes from that Sales meeting that you have in a Word Document.

Well, try this form within Word the next time you want to create a proposal:

"Create a Proposal based on Contoso Sales Presentation.pptx and Sales Meeting Notes.docx"

How do you get those documents in there? When you are crafting your prompt simply hit the forward slash ( / ) or click the reference file button.

So, you're new to Copilot? well everyone is 😜
